deBosDesign identity

2010-11-12

I’m probably my most difficult client ever, but I’ve picked my favorite logo and finished the design on my website. Let me show you the process and -more importantly- the result!

Since one late night sketch session a couple of years ago I’ve known what I was going to call my website (and my own design studio some day…): deBosDesign. They always say that the simplest ideas are usually the best, and I guess it’s true. You can’t get much simpler than ‘your name’ and ‘what you do’ as far as company names go. And that’s exactly what I did. The cool thing of course is, that it actually sounds good. In English it sounds even better when you don’t know ‘de Bos’ is written with only one ‘s’… The other thing I like is that it alliterates. So the name was chosen, but it took me a while to start working on a logo.

It was only in the summer of 2010 that I started thinking and sketching and finally came up with the winning design. A lot of logo’s didn’t make it. Some were to complicated and didn’t scale well, some were just too generic and didn’t stand out. After a while I decided I wanted something with a tree or a forest (‘de Bos’ roughly translates as ‘the forest’) and it wasn’t long before I sketched the eventual logo.

After the name and logo were chosen, I quickly began making all my Corporate Identity items such as business cards, stationary and of course my website.
